Group Accounts

TopoMania offers two different types of accounts: a Standard Account and a Group Account. Below we explain the differences between these two account types and when to use each one.

Standard Account

When you register on TopoMania, you start with a Standard Account. Most users use this account type. You have access to the main features of TopoMania: you get your own page where you can save, copy and edit maps, and you can track your highscores.

Group Account

A Group Account is designed for group administrators, such as school teachers, geography tutors or homework institutes. With a Group Account, you can invite other TopoMania users to become members of your pages.

Under a Group Account you can create multiple pages with maps. You can organize them however you like: for example, you can create separate pages per topic, per continent, or per school class. Schools are also welcome to create multiple group accounts if needed.

Maps can be moved between pages within the same Group Account. Maps cannot be moved to a different Group Account.

Administrators of Group Accounts can create exams for maps, as well as view and export student results.

Groups can also combine their highscores in the collective group competition. The total score of all group members is showcased in the Group Highscores List.

Switching to a Group Account

If you want to use the features of a Group Account, you can switch your account type yourself at any time. Go to your profile page by clicking your username at the top right of the menu and choosing "My Account". Then click on "Edit". At the bottom of that page, you will find an explanation of both account types and a switch button to toggle between Standard Account and Group Account. The change takes effect immediately, and you can switch back whenever you want. All of your saved maps and pages remain fully accessible.

Inviting Members

Administrators of Group Accounts can allow other TopoMania users to become members of their pages. Follow these steps:

• Edit the page to which you want to admit members and make sure the checkbox "Accept members" is checked.
• On that same page, generate an invitation code that members will use to join. Save the code. You can let the system generate a random code, or choose your own custom code.
• Send a message to the people you want to invite, providing them with the link to your page and the invitation code.
• Your prospective members visit your page, click the "Join group" link, and enter the code. They are now registered members of your page!

Managing Members

In the "My TopoMania" menu you will find the "Members" section. Here you can manage and remove existing members. When editing members, you can add extra details such as first name, last name, student ID number and email address. This information is only visible to you as group administrator. When a first and last name are entered, those names will be displayed in the exam results overviews.

Group Highscores

Your group can compete in the nationwide and international group rankings. All highscores achieved by members of your group on your group's maps are added together. The combined total is displayed in the Group Highscores List. To participate in the group rankings, check the box "Show in Group Highscores list" on your profile page. You also need to enter a group name and a city/town name (for instance, the name and location of your school). Once set, the sum of all highscores across all your pages will be featured in the Group Highscores.

If you have multiple pages in your Group Account, highscores from all pages are included.

If you no longer wish your group to appear in the rankings, simply uncheck the box.

Users with an existing School Account automatically participate in the group competition. You can uncheck the option at any time to hide your school from the list.
